Prefab house construction plans as a template - does that cause problems?

We are now in the detailed preliminary planning phase before we will soon consult the architect.

At the moment, we are wondering if there could be legal problems if we get inspired by the construction plans of a prefab house manufacturer.
Specifically, we really like the external dimensions, layout, etc. We would only want to change a few small details such as the arrangement and size of the windows + doors.

Legally, the plans are probably protected as stated in print...

The question is what exactly can be protected in such an idea? If we only change a small part, it’s no longer 1 to 1, or am I mistaken?

Even if we implemented it 1 to 1, the chance that the prefab company ever finds out about it would be low, right?

if it's a well-thought-out "standard" floor plan, who would want to prove that I didn't just make it fit for myself? Besides, the question: just because the catalog says it's protected, it theoretically doesn't mean that it is legally so. However, I would really be interested in the answer from an expert here now, unfortunately my sense of justice sometimes does not align with the applicable law ;)

You can copy as much as you want - but why do you go to an architect and then want to present your "stolen" designs there? What is he supposed to do then? Clap?

But legally, no one can mess with you there.

The architect should not applaud but complete the plans that I need for the building application + desired additional services. Also, as mentioned, small things will be changed and I would like to have the opinion of an architect on that.

It's a lot of money to throw away - normally a good architect doesn't do something like that (willingly). You should give him freedom and only set the framework conditions.
