Hmm, with us the costs for a condominium are almost at the level of a house, that's the sad part. We also had the idea of buying a 4-room apartment in between... but the prices are around 350,000,- and of course upwards. We buried the idea again.

First of all, many thanks to everyone.

We know that we cannot build like this. We do not want to have to watch every single cent in the end and possibly not be able to save anything at all. No matter how you look at the expenses. Even if the car loan were paid off, and we had an additional part-time job, you would have to reconsider the whole thing at least 10 more times. Without any infrastructure, it is nonsense. I just wanted to know your opinion on the whole thing. The more we inform ourselves about it, the clearer it becomes. In and around this city, it is simply too expensive for "normal" earners.

We have 2 condominiums in the middle of Frankfurt up our sleeve. Both apartments (private sale) have 4 rooms and cost under 200,000€. However, they need renovation. We will probably take this route.

In the middle of Frankfurt, that sounds good :) since I practically live just a stone's throw from Frankfurt and know my way around well, I would be interested in the neighborhood.

Because 200,000 sounds very good

So for 200,000 EUR you can't even get an acceptable 4-room apartment here in the East (larger cities!). On average, you can expect around 2500 EUR per sqm here... for a 4-room (120 sqm) we're at 300,000 EUR. But that's still not a special location.

I once read something about Frankfurt having 3800-4000 EUR per sqm...

One can take a look at the Frankfurt "IHK Housing Market Report 2015/2016" regarding this matter.
