Plastering and painting walls or do they need wallpaper?

we have bought a new house and the interior walls will be handed over to us with Q2. Now, as a layman, I have no idea what options I have. Can I simply have the painter paint over the walls, or would he need to plaster the walls first and then paint? Or do the walls need wallpaper?

For us, it is important that the walls have a smooth surface.

Exactly. Q2 is not really smooth yet, but ready for textured wallpaper. But if you want smooth, you have to at least plaster to Q3, then fleece, then paint. Alternatively, patterned wallpaper also works.

We painted over Q3 and painter's fleece. The walls are smooth. I would do it again anytime. As a tip, maybe consider using [Tapeteneckleisten] as edge protection in passage areas.

I think I will have Q3 putty applied, fleece, and then paint. Do you have an estimate of what that might cost me for an area of 550 sqm?
