Planning the terrace roofing. Is there light entering the rooms?

Hello dear friends,

we are once again puzzled by a question on which we would like to hear different opinions. We are currently planning a terrace roof for our bungalow, which may cover the entire terrace (ordinary roof with roof tiles, so opaque).

Now we are worried that this (South/South/East) might reduce the amount of light so much that it might be "too dark" in the rooms. The terrace would extend about 3.60 meters from the windows and be about 8.25 meters wide.

What do you think?

At what height will the terrace roof be? And where will the slope be? I ask because nowadays there are also bungalows where the gable roof is simply extended forward, so the roof would be high enough to bring light into the window. However, if it has a normal height of a conventional bungalow (approx. 250 cm), then I would say that the associated terrace window below can almost be excluded for room lighting. I would only install an opaque terrace roof in front of a room that is illuminated by another window. Do you possibly have a floor plan with the location of the roofing that one could use to assess?

The roof is to be extended forward.

Hello,

at least the parents' bedroom is likely to become very dark due to such a terrace roof. The living room and children's room still have other windows at least.

Why do you want a complete roof?

Regards,

Dirk

Basically, we have initially planned the complete roofing. In fact, we are also wondering whether, for example, half of it would be sufficient. It would certainly be big enough.

Hi,

half of it would probably be much better in terms of lighting, but I would question how usable the covered part would be with a depth of around 180 cm. No beer table set fits under there (protected from rain)...

Or are you only considering covering the right or the left half?

Why do you even want a roof?

Wouldn't a waterproof awning be an option?
