Dear homeowners,

who among you has experience with parquet flooring in the kitchen? We are currently planning our house, which has an open kitchen, dining, and living area. For aesthetic reasons, we would like to lay the same parquet everywhere, but we are skeptical whether it is robust enough in the cooking area. We are not overly picky, but we also do not want to have to replace the entire floor after 10 years.

My parents built in 1984, the parquet is still in the kitchen today. Of course, it develops a patina over time (gets a bit darker), definitely more than, for example, in the living room. They wax the floor once a year and may have sanded it down once, but I'm not sure about that.

We have had it here for 2 years, parquet everywhere, and we will do the same in the new building with solid wood planks, because I don’t really like the visual transitions between stone and wood. Of course, wood is softer than stone and you might get a dent now and then, whereas stone is more likely to crack or be completely damaged if something falls on it. I am PRO wood everywhere and would also lay it in the bathroom anytime!

We do the same, solid oak planks everywhere except the bathrooms. In the entrance area it is borderline in winter, otherwise I love it. You just have to be aware of the properties beforehand.

We also have parquet flooring in the kitchen, but at the "high-traffic" spots (in front of the stove and the sink) there is a washable(!) rug... so it's not such a big deal if something spills...

Unfortunately, I don't have any long-term experience yet, as I only moved in last year.

In my old apartment, I once dropped a pot badly on the tiled kitchen floor. The tile was badly damaged. I think with parquet it wouldn't have looked so bad.

We have parquet flooring everywhere in our rental apartment, including in the kitchen. You can clearly see the wear and tear after two years, even though we take good care of it. Water (resp. child with water) is the ultimate enemy, the rest we can easily categorize as "signs of life." We also have a rug there, which helps.
