Hello everyone,

I would like to ask for your advice, as we are facing the decision of which flooring to install in our open living area. It is certain that we want tiles in the kitchen and parquet in the living area. We are still undecided about where to separate these areas.

- Idea 1: Line at the recessed wall, problem: at the window in the kitchen both tiles and parquet
- Idea 2: Tile the area around the kitchen in an L-shape, 1.20 m from the wall

Which option do you think is better, or do you perhaps have completely different ideas? A change to the floor plan or similar is not possible. ;)

Many thanks in advance.

Do you have expansion joints in the screed?

How about a "tile carpet"? So the tiles framed with wood?

We also have two types of flooring in the open living area. For us, it made sense to separate them where there were already separation cuts. There are two large blocks of tiles and floorboards. However, the floorboards at the terrace doors are quite heavily used (ground floor). Here, a somewhat more confined change of flooring might have been good, a kind of clean-off area with tiled flooring.

But do I understand correctly that with option 1 there would be half tiles and half parquet under the dining table? That looks strange. Do you have children? If yes, I would extend the tiles around the entire dining table area…. And just a 1.20 meter strip of tiles doesn’t look good visually either.

Have you ever been to a Vapiano? There the floor is completely wood and people walk around all winter with street shoes and eat. The floor still looks good. I would therefore be in favor of wood everywhere.
