Hello

I am facing a challenge:
An old building is to be upgraded to extreme security.
Windows that are truly secure. What protection class exists for that?
Doors accordingly.
And preferably a total sealing off of the upper floor. A kind of large panic room.
An architect is available. He is familiar with old houses. Probably less so with security.
Money is not the primary concern. I understand that the upgrade will not be cheap.
Does anyone know a company/specialist who is experienced with mechanical security upgrades?

Hello Steven,

surely an interesting project. Unfortunately, you do not provide enough information.
There is no total security and fear is always a bad advisor.
Money always plays a role. Without knowing the details, I would estimate between €500k-1 million based on your statements.
Windows in RC5 and so on.
You need a security concept and not just different windows and doors. Presumably, the walls are not even suitable to meet the standards...
Where do electricity, water, air come from? Is it self-sufficient?

What exactly are you planning and why? I suspect that significantly lower protection classes would suffice or is the old building located in a war zone?

Hello Rick

I understand that there is no absolute security. You can get in anywhere. It is merely a matter of material or time. It should also withstand non-opportunity burglars. So someone who has observed and prepared.
The details should be clarified on site with the specialist. Since extensive remodeling work is planned anyway, there are (almost) no taboos.

Hello Steven,

google resistance classes for windows and doors.
They range from RC 1 N to RC 6. Defined by which tools are used and how long the windows withstand the attack.
Then you can share your demands. Is the property remote or in the city? Normally burglars give up after a few minutes (including non-opportunistic burglars). The risk of detection then becomes too high.
Also important are alarm system, lighting, and camera surveillance, and possibly security service.
Take out good insurance if there are valuables involved. For protection of life and limb, a security service is certainly the cheapest and best solution.
As a locking system, have a look at the Stealthkey from UrbanAlps. It cannot simply be copied with a photo. Additionally, another system with fingerprint or iris scan. Motor locks everywhere that lock automatically.
Personally, I would not go higher than RC3 in combination with other (mentioned) measures.

I know people who have built a fortress. After at most half a year, most mechanisms are disabled or not activated because it restricts daily life too much.

Hello rick

thanks for the information.
It is also important that the entire upper floor can be separated from the lower one. How? No idea. There are certainly specialists who can plan that.

Hello Steven,

Sealing off at the top is basically possible. Just treat it like an outer shell. I assume there is a stairwell with a separate door? Execute this and windows accordingly, possibly reinforce walls and floors, + cameras and sensors. Definitely involve the structural engineer because quite a bit of additional weight will accumulate there. Unfortunately, I can't recommend a specialist in your area. For a start, contact Telenot. Their alarm systems come highly recommended. Acquaintances have completed an (industrial) project with Krass Wilke & colleagues. There you are certainly in extremely competent hands (hearsay, no personal experience).

Regards Rick
