Hello

I would like to paint my two doors in my apartment white (currently brown), but I am unsure about choosing the right paint. Could someone give me advice on which paint (synthetic resin paint, water-based paint, etc.) is most suitable for this? What is especially important to me, besides the appearance, is durability and above all the issue of "not harmful to health" due to a newborn in the house... Unfortunately, we also have no possibility to leave the apartment after application - so it should be tolerable immediately after painting.

Thank you!!!

When it comes to the next generation, then definitely paint without solvents. To transform brown doors into white doors, you should prime at least twice with a white primer, otherwise the brown will keep shining through. Durability is offered by any paint if it is applied correctly, so sand thoroughly, prime well, and then apply the paint thinly.

Hello,

prime as often as needed until no brown color shows through anymore and only then apply the paint. I also think eco-paint is best with children.

If you want the doors to look good, then do not use acrylic paint, because it cannot be sanded later, as half of it does not tolerate the sanding heat and causes bubbles! Other paints are not the healthiest either, but good ventilation afterwards always helps. When I do something like this, I send the kids to grandma’s, problem solved. Solvent-based paints have a much better flow because they stay open longer! But everyone has to decide that for themselves! However, sanding after every coat is important! The build-up should always be like this: For a stable substrate, such as an old brown paint, you don’t need a primer but a sealer, one to two times, and then a satin or high gloss paint depending on your preference! Have fun!
