Hello everyone,

we are currently building a prefabricated house. In the bathroom, we are only tiling the walls partially. We want to paint the remaining wall area. Our prefabricated house company says that a simple paint with abrasion resistance class 3 would be sufficient. However, we have heard from friends that this is definitely not enough.

Can anyone help us here? Which paint or material is best suited for the walls in the bathroom? We have normal drywall in the bathroom (not green drywall). Many thanks for your help.

Best regards
Stefanie

Best to plaster (have plastered). This way, moisture can be absorbed and released again, making it difficult for mold to develop accordingly.

We also just painted normally. Our painter also said that this is sufficient. Through our controlled residential ventilation, the moisture is quickly extracted in the bathroom.

I would not agree to the installation of regular and non-moisture-resistant drywall panels. Although a bathroom is not considered a moisture room and therefore not subject to the regulation according to DIN, there are still safety considerations. The splash area around the shower/sink will probably be tiled in your case, so regular dispersion paint is sufficient for the rest.

It's about the color, not the drywall.

I would use completely normal interior paint. Nothing should happen in the short to medium term. And after 3 years, if you can't stand the "old" color anymore, just paint over it again :-).
