A normal household doesn't need two ovens either, yet many have them (we do too)... the great thing about a new build is that you can design things to suit yourself or eliminate small everyday problems. For me, for example, it was always an issue that I often get up at night, the light disturbed my husband. Now we have mini lamps under the bed that are controlled by motion detectors.

It's also a matter of taste whether someone likes the appearance or not, that's certainly not an argument as it's subjective. It looks like a cupboard door anyway...

Decadence... mh... I also find that too judgmental. I would find it clever, but I really think it's only worthwhile for large families.

But this is not a small "everyday problem."

Of course, it’s also subjective. But if someone doesn’t even want to empty their dishwasher anymore, it’s heading in that direction. I could now exaggerate and say: Then just give up cabinets and the cutlery drawer as well. Just three or four dishwashers and the kitchen setup is scattered.

We are now three, but planning for 5 people in the next 3-4 years. There is some truth to the fact that my perception might now be distorted by Corona. Especially since I currently only have a 40 cm dishwasher. Hmm, probably more of a crazy idea after all. Do dishwashers break if you don’t use them regularly (several times a week)?

As far as I know, no. I currently use a large-capacity dishwasher as a single person. It doesn't harm it to go a week without running it. Saves water and tabs.

Sure, you can see it that way, but a few years ago, for example, ice cube dispensers or steam ovens were decadent, today they are common.

That wouldn't be the argument for me either. But when I notice that the two of us as almost "daily cooks" sometimes have the problem that everything doesn't fit in at once (larger pots or the like), then I can very well imagine that with 3 kids here, there is a justified existence of a second device.

I don't see it that way, it's worth a discussion
I already wrote in the first post, if the kitchen planning allows it easily, why not? Here in the neighborhood, the household's second car stands 90% of the time in the driveway instead of being used, but no one sees that as decadent.
