I also do not have any children yet. In the calculation, I have set 520 euros per month for that. Then another 300 euros for [Krippenplatz]. For the house, I calculate 3 euros ancillary costs per sqm and 1.5 euros repair reserve.

Our additional costs for 190 sqm are currently significantly lower (~220 euros)... however without any reserves. Are you planning to go back to work? If so, when and immediately full-time? Costs for small children are like those for tiles... from..to - with the difference that quality only partly correlates with price.

We are currently paying 455 euros in total additional costs for our old detached house with 180 sqm.

In the first 5 years, I would not build up any repair reserves. According to your approach, that would be 300 euros per month for us - I would definitely put that into repayment. After 5 years, I will probably start saving into a home savings contract. I assume that no major repairs will be necessary in the first 10 to 15 years, although storm damage etc. is of course insured.

It strongly depends on how you want to handle things with the children. We are in our early 30s and "done" with children. My wife went back to work part-time right away and after 1 year full-time. Then it is not a financial cutback. If the wife stays at home for 4 years, that has significant effects, also beyond the 4 years.

Thank you very much for all the tips so far! I currently do not plan to stay at home for longer than a year. I want to work 75-100% after the year of parental leave (without knowing maternal feelings at the moment). A daycare place here in the countryside is not that expensive. In addition, my parents and parents-in-law were nearby. BigFlow: would you like to explain to me how you come to 520€ costs per month/child?

I simply based it on the Federal Statistical Office statistics :)

Birth until school: €6200/year
School children up to 12: €7200/year
Costs up to 18: €8400/year

It can be more or less as always, but you have to set something at some point. However, others can surely provide you with more reliable figures.

In contrast, there are allowances that TaMu/KiTa can deduct from taxes by 2/3. You need to know whether you need everything new or if it is allowed to be used. With the second child, some costs disappear at the beginning (because you already have them). Regarding the mother's feelings and work: my wife loves our child, but also her job. It is possible to manage both, but both have to help with the household.
