Opening direction of the attic bathroom door

Forget about "common" and do what you want. In our house, there is a sliding door made of frosted glass in front of the parents' bathroom. Advantage: it is not in the way and looks stylish. Disadvantage: it is not very soundproof.

So for the bathroom, if at all, I would only choose a wall-integrated sliding door. They simply close better.

I would position the door as far to the right as possible and have it open outwards.

Perhaps you should also consider the aesthetics in the hallway. Doors that are next to each other, with one opening inward and the other outward, can disturb the viewer.
