A fingernail is good for simulating scratches, a chair with wheels naturally has a larger contact area, moves, and applies the corresponding pressure. But it was about the scratches... and for that the fingernail test is completely sufficient. By the way, there are special parquet wheels for office chairs.

Well, we don't want to install a musty carpet, we're rather thinking of a new one.
I have lived with carpet in the bedrooms for years; a wet cleaning has not been necessary yet. With two people who walk around in socks, a kind of "dampness" hardly occurs. Carpet is still the coziest floor, in my opinion, you just have to choose the right one. Besides, I am not a slave to my house... cleaning the floor every day is not possible or necessary (there is no lint development etc. with carpet).

But many thanks for these answers.
We chose bamboo (whether wood or grass) among other things because of its hardness.
That it is now offered without this layer is understandable, since according to the supplier it is to be glued down.
Since it will only be a side room, a contrast to the rest of the ground floor, tiles, would be interesting, and with a chair mat (we already have one for our woven carpet) this is doable.
