Robi, you also need to know if the 80 cm are exact, because then the crossbars cannot be placed on top, otherwise it won't be exactly 220 cm. Will a low drawer still fit with a shelf board on top?

I just measured it again. It is exactly 80cm without the crossbar. I also have a low inner drawer at the very top in an 80cm carcass. It fits tightly, the inner drawer front is still 1.7cm away from the upper edge. The shelf board is 18mm thick, but it should still fit... because there is 1 to 2 mm clearance between the side panels of the carcasses and the bottom panel... if you keep that in mind and let the shelf board protrude 1 to 2 mm at the top, it also gives a straight, stable support to the carcass above.

Unfortunately, I can't measure anything at the moment because I'm not in Germany – and won't be for a few more weeks. But Robi could help.

220cm height is also possible without stacking. I simply built 80cm tall cabinets from 80cm base cabinet carcasses and the 220cm tall cabinet:

You just have to be very precise during assembly to ensure the right angle of the side walls to the bottom/top panel and reinforce the shelf with angle profiles from the hardware store, since there is no reinforced shelf in 80cm width from Ikea.

Alternatively, of course, you can also do this by stacking, but it is definitely more expensive and you are less flexible regarding the position of the shelves. By the way, two binders can fit one behind the other in 60cm deep Metod. It’s just crazy how much you can archive now

What exactly is your available width? If it’s 260, then I wouldn’t do that, because you won’t have any edge and the doors will always hit the wall with the handle. Or is it a niche where the cabinets will go?

If however it’s only 260, then do it like me and build three 80cm cabinets, then you will still have 10cm of space on the left and right.
