I wonder anyway what you want to learn there in the first place. The laborer sets stones, shovels sand and cement into the mixer, knocks out the slots that the master has marked and the journeyman has milled, carries pans onto the roof, etc. You are unskilled cheap labor, so a company will treat you like that most of the time. And even if... who tells you that you didn’t end up with the boss’s botcher personally? You can’t even judge whether you’re being shown the right way or not.

So you’d better watch it on YouTube. The chance that Hornbach ([Meisterschmiede]) or craftsmen with a certain reach tell you nonsense is significantly lower than being shown the completely wrong thing on a construction site "Because it has always been done this way and nothing has ever happened or there was damage."

And then it’s practice, practice, practice and of course also a certain skill and some talent. If you don’t have that, you might as well give up.

So I have been doing this for years. But not through strangers or platforms, rather within my circle of friends and acquaintances. I think this is a good way to gauge what you can or cannot handle when building your own house and to gain routine in dealing with tools. Is there someone in your circle of acquaintances who is currently building or about to build?

In any case, it's already good to help friends and acquaintances. Unfortunately, many only come by after the 10m³ has already been shoveled away and the grill is fired up...

But there you also have the problem again:
Are the acquaintances craftsmen or have they learned something practical? Then you are the "floor board helper." You want to finish, and I wouldn't want to let a buddy practice on my floor how to lay engineered parquet. He can assist me by handing me boards, getting new packages, helping later with tidying up and drinking beer... marking, sawing, laying, I'll do that myself...

And if the acquaintances are not trained, then they usually botch something together that makes your ears ring, namely the melody of the cordless screwdriver spinning out in the screw head because the torque limiter is set to "drilling." Or something similar...

But what is true is that you definitely see what even purportedly small things often entail in terms of effort. For the non-road builder, "8. 9 setting curbstones" is usually already a full day task. Then you can better assess it and set realistic goals and deadlines for your own work.

Professionally, it remains the same. Read, watch videos, and during the house construction feel free to ask the odd craftsman now and then.
