In many cases, a storage system is not economically worthwhile ... yet! Recover those thousands of euros! But that can change. Storage systems are becoming cheaper and cheaper. As soon as refurbished car batteries flood the market, there will be seasonal storage for the home. Then you charge up 70 kWp in the summer and enjoy it into the fall and maybe even into the winter. Since from next year many systems will only be billed via dynamic feed-in tariffs, a storage option around midday will be significantly more interesting again.

In any case, it is important to consider the individual situation. Only then can one assess whether a storage system makes sense and, if so, in what size. And anyone who simply feels better with it just buys a storage system.

Hi,

You would also drain a car battery storage with a heat pump in the fall/winter after a few days and then probably not be able to fully recharge it anymore.
Completely self-sufficient is basically not achievable, at least not with any kind of reasonable effort.

By the way, car batteries will, if at all, rather be used in industrial/large-scale environments and not in private households. They are usually based on lithium-ion batteries that require active temperature management for safe operation. You don't just want to put such a unit in your basement.

The normal storages for home use are LiPoFe batteries, which are much safer but cannot deliver the currents usual in electric cars.

As I have written before: The main advantage of a storage system is that you can run the washing machine in the evening without having to be annoyed about using expensive grid electricity and wasting your photovoltaic power for 8 cents during the day. In other words, you don’t have to change your habits and you save many discussions with the family.

Economically, storage will only be worthwhile if you don’t pay more than €300-350 per kWh. You can actually only achieve this if you buy and install it yourself. Most solar installers charge twice that amount.

Best regards,

Andreas

In fact, there are already some projects available for private households. It all started with small initiatives by private individuals. In the meantime, a few companies have taken this up. You don't actually put such a battery in the basement, but rather on the exterior wall or similar to external heat pumps in front of the house. Primarily, this is aimed at multi-family households. However, this will change with the increasing availability of batteries. You just shouldn't expect it to be ready for market in 2-3 years.
