Hello,
our fuse box clicks loudly (you can hear it when you operate a switch in the hallway above) and hums/whirs when all fuses are in. What could this be? (Renovation, electrical system completely renewed)

Also, one light is very strange: it turns on with the switch, but I can't turn it off again; only by removing the fuse.
On Monday I will call the electrician. But maybe someone can already help me with their experience as to what this could be and whether it is a bigger problem or (hopefully) easy to fix?
Thank you!

Your entire description sounds as if, after your landing here on Terra, you had first contact with the species "Treppenlichtautomat" :-)

House spirit ???

What does the gentleman who installed it say?? A light should normally be able to be turned on and off

The hallway light switch sends a pulse via a clicking relay in the fuse box and turns on the light, which after a preset time clicks the relay again and it becomes dark again. As a result, the switch only turns on. Advantage: No one can forget the hallway light, disadvantage: no one can leave the hallway light on.

Thank you . That at least clears up one of my questions. :-) I probably didn't describe it very well either. The noises worry me (it's not just about that one light, which I now understand). But I will ask the electrician directly tomorrow, hopefully he won't laugh at me either.

Most certainly - that's exactly why I wanted to warn you. A push button is not a switch. Staircase lighting with a two-way switch can be done (in a single-family house), but the staircase timer is better. It gives a pulse – that's why it's a push button – in the fuse box a shot fires, for a set (and adjustable) time it rattles like a Schuco car, then the spook stops by itself again. And of course, there is also a permanent setting, .
