We live in the 21st century, nothing goes off as long as you're inside. Of course, this applies if you use modern technology and its possibilities, and not just things picked up from the hardware store on the way or toys ordered online.

Our electrician wanted 180€ net for a motion detector without presence detection..

We don’t want to invest money in such “gadgets,” maybe we are old-fashioned, even though we are not that old yet.. :)

Depending on the shape of the room, this can also be perfectly retrofitted instead of a traditional switch - of course only if the switch is INSIDE the room. ;)

Why actually either or? - if I were still used to a corridor-wide bathroom light switch, - although eleven years were enough for me to get used to it - then I would put a control unit on both sides; each with two push switches (one for on and the other for off), then it doesn't matter how long it takes to get used to it, and guests will manage in any case.

... except for the guests who only turn it on outside and then - after they have passed through the door - forget that they just did so and accordingly reflexively turn it off again immediately. :D

That's why yes paddle shifters for on and off and no changeover switch. The PLC does not turn "2x on" into "off".
