New planting area with an extreme amount of weeds. What’s next?

Four weeks ago we laid our lawn and reseeded it.

Unfortunately, the COMPLETE lawn is extremely densely covered with weeds.

The lawn has no chance to grow properly.

Last Saturday I sprayed Roundup against weeds in the lawn. Slowly the weeds are dying and turning yellow.

The grass that came through still stands strong.

What happens next?

How do I remove the dead weeds in 1-2 weeks?

Can I simply use the scarifier to work on the lawn?

I want to overseed afterwards.

How would you proceed?

You can't go wrong with scarifying and overseeding. First, apply 1-2 mm of sand, which will go into the gaps created by scarifying. I always use a lawn fertilizer with weed killer for spring fertilization. That works quite well.

What is the point of the sand?

It helps to avoid waterlogging on heavy soil and thus moss. If you naturally live in a sandy area, of course it makes no sense.

If you have just sown grass, it does not make sense to ruin everything again with the scarifier. You can remove the weeds manually and, above all, provide the lawn with nutrients so that it grows densely and suppresses the weeds.

Roughly pull out the big weeds, then apply Compo weed free on it and then fertilize, if you haven’t done it yet. For the future, mow at least once a week to get the grass cover dense. Unfortunately, I only have 200m2 but currently everyone who visits is impressed by how green it is. It is growing densely and will get even better, unfortunately I still have other things to do at the house. Otherwise, I would test mowing twice a week. Actually, I should have mowed again today but had no time.
