Hello,

I hope I have found the right subforum .

Our 520 sqm plot is unfortunately completely overgrown with blackberries - up to 3-4m high. We want to start construction (including the basement) in February/March, but I am still unaware of the necessary steps and hope for some clarification.

On Wednesday, my neighbor is coming with his boys and a tractor including a mulcher and will shred all the bushes for us - then we will finally have a clear view of the property .

But what next? For the basement, a construction pit will be dug anyway, the topsoil above it will actually be removed, the existing sandy soil is suitable for backfilling.

But then there is still all the topsoil left in the garden area. What would be the best approach here - also to get the best price? Should I privately find someone who scoops off the entire plot before construction starts and piles it up in the back garden? Only: Can the soil even be reused (sifted first or round-up?)?

Or remove all the topsoil (what does that cost per cubic meter) and later spread new soil? If yes, when would that be done? After the building is finished, right?

Sorry for asking such a dumb question, but I would rather not present the builder with facts on the ground that could generate unnecessary additional costs.

Thanks a lot for tips!

Regards Sebastian

Hello Sebastian, sorry to bring up the topic again. I am currently facing the same problem. May I ask how you solved it back then? Thanks. Regards Stefan

With a tractor and a shredder attachment, the bushes were tackled. Thanks to cellar excavation, much of it was then gone, but contrary to many opinions on the internet, blackberries are not shallow-rooted in the topsoil. Here, the roots went very deep and every root still there sprouts again. You can use hydrochloric acid, but that is forbidden...

We had the same problem - after the leveling and all the construction work, we currently can't find any more... I'm curious if they will come back.

Can you name the relevant legal regulations regarding this? (Genuine interest ...)

No, I simply assume that it is forbidden to pour hydrochloric acid into the ground
