Dear forum,

Last week we received the notification from the municipality that we could purchase a building plot for which we had applied. The purchase contract was sent to us for review. Today we were given a notary appointment. The problem, however, is that we are still waiting for the builder’s offer. Without this offer, we cannot finalize financing. Without financing, we cannot sign the purchase contract for the plot. What options are there?

Best regards, Johannes

delay the purchase of the property until everything is finalized. depending on supply and demand for properties, this is no problem (province in the far east) or completely impossible (Alsterblick Hamburg).

if you want to buy a property, by the way, YOU choose the notary and not some office. it happens that entire residential areas are handled by one notary, but you still have to make the appointment yourself.

the best thing is probably to simply ask the office whether you can wait another 2-3 weeks until the rest is finalized. any rush in this area can cost you a lot of money if you're unlucky.

I would try not to let myself be pressured. Of course, the municipality wants to get the property settled as quickly as possible and it may be that they try to push you a bit more by pointing out that the property will soon be gone - but accept that and, if in doubt, keep looking instead of either choosing a rather unprofitable interim financing or standing there without financing at all.
