Hello,
we built a new house last year and are now spending the first winter in it. We have installed a chimney but no fireplace yet; we don’t know when there will be budget for that again.
The problem is that the chimney is located in the utility room and goes through the bathroom to the attic. Our roof is a cold roof. Between the upper floor ceiling and the chimney, there is rock wool insulation as heat protection. In the bathroom, the chimney was simply plastered and painted. I have already measured with an infrared thermometer, and the chimney is only 12 to 15 degrees; due to the humidity in the bathroom, mold spots are now forming on the chimney below the ceiling.
When we have a fireplace, I think the problem will solve itself, but until then we need a temporary solution...
I have considered wrapping the chimney in insulation under the roof and possibly closing the outlet with a styrofoam board.
Do you think that would help?
