Yes. Also much more expensive. Therefore, one uses the normal concrete sufficient for strength and the membranes with it. This way it is functionally okay and economical.

Just a question out of interest. I once got to look inside my western neighbors' place, a timber frame house (basically still in shell construction) with a watertight concrete basement and KS brick interior walls in the basement.

I didn’t see any bitumen membrane under the brick interior walls! Will this eventually cause problems for them? And if so, what kind?

As far as I understand, the state of the art for buildings with basements is a welded membrane in the basement at the first course of bricks and on the last course of bricks (for whatever reason?!) so under the ground floor slab.

I speculate that it is due to the many known damages to existing buildings that do not have such protection. The effort involved is minimal, it can be done in one day, and you have protection from below and from the side.

I want to start with the moisture barrier this weekend. The masonry barrier consists of bitumen and my moisture barrier is a foil from a large manufacturer whose name starts with Ge.... I assume that I cannot weld it. I would have to look into that again. But I have obtained a sealing tape which I will then use.
I was just not sure whether an overlap is sufficient instead of also adhesive bonding it.

Ask a bricklayer. Better safe than sorry.

That's how it was done for us. I just looked through our pictures. And we then welded bitumen membranes over the entire basement floor as well as the other floor slabs touching the ground. By the way, the bitumen membranes were raised about 10 cm up the walls.
