Hello everyone,

I would now like to paint my interior walls in a different color shade. I currently have a gray tone in mind.

My idea was to buy white wall paint + black and mix them. Should I do this myself or rather go through a hardware store like [Toom]?

I look forward to any tips & tricks on this topic.

Best regards,

Amper

The problem with self-mixing is the unattainable repeatability. We partially have such a Latte Macchiato color on the wall in the house. My brother is a master painter. He could have mixed it. Nevertheless, we had Hagebau do it, so now we have a defined color tone that we can reorder for touch-ups. Which has already happened.

Latte macchiato is also difficult: if you eventually like it a bit stronger or with more milk, it immediately changes. Joking aside: Gray is not only made up of black and white, but also contains other color pigments, obviously some red to give it a taupe shade or a blue for a cool gray. You can a) be way off and b) [nordlys] mentioned that.

Should you decide to mix, you should use sterile tools. Shades of gray are better created with red and green to white, and the colorful colors should not be too sparse. Every colorful color has its charm. Gray made from black and white somehow becomes lifeless. Before use, you can take some of the paint and seal it against oxygen with a piece of cling film. Put the lid on and store it in the refrigerator; it lasts many times longer than usual. Reproducing the color is possible, but not everyone can do it. As a basis, you just have to apply every color you have used to a sample board. If you only deal with colors a little, I would not try it. Having it mixed is safer. Best regards Gabriele

Why do you want to do it alone, I see no necessity for that but rather a risk. Every paint store or hardware store mixes everything you want for you without any real extra charge.

And rather buy slightly more expensive paint from the painting supplies than from the hardware store, as it usually covers better.
