You have to dig trenches for the extraction points anyway. From the extraction points, you can later create irrigation zones. Valve box simply by the pump. If the garden is not huge and/or very complex, I would consider installing irrigation right away.

You don't need to control the pump via smarthome but the valves. The pump detects the pressure drop and then starts. For the pump, just an on/off switch. This can of course also be implemented via "smarthome".
With the weather station, you stop watering anyway before winter. The individual circuits then need to be emptied. The easiest way is with compressed air and then switching through the valves. It's quick.

My pump has an automatic system, meaning there is always 5 bar pressure in the supply line up to the valves. Therefore, I want to be able to switch off the pump in a defined way in case of frost.
