That sounds great! I’m also still looking for garden inspiration. Would you happen to share a photo? And can you name exactly the plants you planted?
Thanks!
Unfortunately no photo (at least not directly found, but I definitely must have photographed it the first time it bloomed), but I noted the perennials and other plants back then: purple loosestrife, blazing star, coreopsis, catnip, lupine, bleeding heart, creeping bellflower, lavender. The bed wasn’t quite full yet with that, but the lupine has spread so well that we now have three of them. Catnip and lavender couldn’t survive there, with the former probably regularly flattened by the neighborhood cats, which wasn’t very pretty anyway.
In the back row of the bed there were already several shrubs on the two edges. We added a sweet cherry tree and a currant standard tree in the middle and then arranged all the other plants in two rows in front of them.
However, at that time, we didn’t use a planting plan but simply chose based on the photos of the small plants at the garden center, their growing height, and the suitable location. This was somewhat complicated, especially for us as gardening novices back then. But it actually turned out quite well, though it can certainly be optimized by approaching it more systematically.
Also, I like to place more or less large stones or tree trunks in the bed; I think it nicely breaks things up and also looks nice when the perennials are taking a break. And maybe add a bird bath – and my personal dream bed is complete.
