Vinyl is not sensitive at all and especially with children you often sit or lie on the floor, so I find it very pleasant that it is not as hard as tiles and feels warmer. I would always choose vinyl for living rooms. For the hallway, maybe tiles, whatever.

I would never use vinyl again, we have it in the children's rooms... more scratch-sensitive than our €4 laminate from the student rental apartment at almost ten times the price, doesn't feel nice and the look is somehow rubbish after having looked at it for 2 years. Nothing beats tiles and parquet in the bedrooms.

Vinyl is cheap plastic, sometimes sold at a high price. What do you expect? Price range aside, it changes little at the starting point.

Does anyone have experience with cork? It is supposed to work well with underfloor heating too..

Cork is pretty much the only covering that is not suitable for underfloor heating. There may be products that promise otherwise, I do not know.
