We live similarly, right in the countryside, and I would say our kids and we ourselves are happy. I was born here, later lived in Hamburg and Munich, and came back here at the first opportunity, my husband originally comes from the Ruhr area. You probably won't move straight into the bush but rather into a village or a settlement, and I think there is nothing better for the children. Contacts and such can also be found in the countryside, and you get used to needing your car more often. As long as you have all the important things in the city or within about a 30-minute radius. But you have to want it yourself :)

I wouldn't worry about the "youth life," but for carefree childhood years, rural life is a clear advantage. Since school days have unfortunately become considerably longer since my childhood, I would be more concerned about the extra 60 minutes per day. From 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM classes - so with travel time, 9 hours away from home - is not easy for children.

I agree with the others. And the mentioned distances are more than fine. The children benefit from it, but it will be a bit more stressful for you.

I would do it immediately

I experienced that myself. The downside is that most school friends live in the city and not in your own village. Otherwise, the bus rides are not such a drama. You just do your homework on the bus and you're not alone, a lot of nonsense gets done there ;-)

Because of the children, I wouldn't worry. You are the taxi in the countryside anyway for the first 17 years.

The main thing is that there are still 2-3 children around for quick playing.

The question is whether you want to put up with everything because of the low price (I suppose). Commuting takes its toll, and if you don't know it and then dive in 1000%, it could fail. Then better a studio apartment in Cologne.
