Hello everyone,

we are about to start the paving work now. Yard/driveway/stair area, about 70 sqm.

I am currently thinking about how to illuminate the whole thing properly/sensibly and also a bit nicely. There is a street lamp directly in front of our driveway. So it is actually already quite bright anyway.

At first, I thought about small light columns or something like that. But now I am leaning more towards LED spots. The question now is whether to use spots that only serve as ambient/orientation light or if we should take spots that illuminate the house?! Additionally, I would like to have 2-3 spots at the stair step in the entrance area of the house.
Are there LED ground spots that are solar powered? Or better everything with electricity? Then with a timer switch?!

Does anyone have ideas/suggestions?

I do not consider solar to be a good alternative. Solar always also means a battery, the lifespan is limited. If you embed them into the paving, replacement will be difficult.

LED spots will also have to be completely replaced when they reach the end of their lifespan

Not if only the light bulbs need to be replaced.

Yes, but show me LED lamps where you can still replace the bulb today. There aren’t many, and then you quickly reach for the wrong compartment.

I recently had the problem of having to replace outdoor wall lamps. One side gave out after just under 2 years, the other side lasted longer because the lamp was once replaced under warranty. Although the lamp was still available, I don’t see why we should buy new lamps every 2/3 years, of course preferably the same ones because of the pre-drilled holes.
I have browsed through almost all web shops, but unfortunately it’s like this: small and affordable lamps no longer have replaceable bulbs.
The regular stores offer comparable lamps for over €300, which was too expensive for us.
We have the same problem with indoor wall lamps as reading lamps by the bed.

Therefore, be sure to pay attention to this, otherwise the phenomenon LED in the garden and on the house can turn into a little money pit.

There are plenty of floor spots where you can replace the light sources.

I installed some myself on our terrace. For example, search on Amazon for "IP67 floor recessed spotlights". You'll get numerous results.
