Good evening everyone,
we want to install a vinyl floor in the bedrooms instead of tiles. This results in a height difference between the rooms with tiles (13mm) and the vinyl floor (4.8mm) of about 8mm.
Since we want to avoid using leveling rails and prefer to equalize the floor structure, we are now considering how to achieve the 8mm elevation. Underfloor heating is installed in all rooms. The screed is already in place; we did not want an elevation in order to be able to lay something else in the future.

As a first option, cork comes to mind, with which the 8mm can be bridged. In terms of thermal resistance, a value of under 0.15 m²K/W can just about be achieved.
Additionally, I thought of protective mats that could raise the floor. Are these suitable for underfloor heating? Regarding thermal resistance, these would even be better than cork and also more affordable. Would you recommend them as a floor elevation? Are there other alternatives with which the floor can be raised with underfloor heating? Thank you in advance.

Maybe you first describe exactly which vinyl flooring you want to install. Roll goods, panels, self-adhesive, backing material. After that, it depends on which subfloor you can work with in connection with the underfloor heating. Spontaneously, MDF boards in 8mm thickness come to mind. Although nowadays there are great transition strips with height adjustment. You really hardly notice that.

Use cork or simply thicker vinyl flooring.

Hello, first of all, thanks for the quick answer. They are panels that are supposed to be installed floating with a click connection. The MDF boards would also be an option, but they are still more expensive than the cork floor... Opinions on the construction protection mats? It would of course be a bit unconventional, but is that basically possible with underfloor heating? :)

Use thicker impact sound insulation. Parador offers it in three different thicknesses. However, I do not know whether this can be reconciled with the requirements of the underfloor heating.

You clarify something like that with the screed layer, who can adjust the height of the screed for every room.
