Hello,

this year we will be building our single-family house and I have, of course, been busy with the planning for several months now. Yesterday evening I already bought LED recessed spotlights for hallways, dressing rooms, kitchen, etc. and now I am wondering whether I can simply install them in the drywall panels or if I need special covers because of the heat/fire hazard. Maybe someone can tell me something precise about this?! Many thanks in advance.

I would use the Kaiser ThermoX LED boxes, better safe than sorry. And make sure the spots do not get too hot (6 watts maximum).

Ok that would certainly be the best solution. Unfortunately, the cans cost more than the spots. And then my next consideration would be whether the can fits so easily, that is in terms of height. I don’t yet know how much the drywall panels will be lowered, but I think only a few centimeters. Can the insulation and foil be compressed that easily?

The standard ThermoX are expensive, the LED version is available for under 10 euros, can be retrofitted through a 74mm hole, and requires 6cm depth. Otherwise, there are very flat downlights (for example from Osram with 13mm installation depth), but you already have the spots. Without the box, the spots hang directly in the insulation and push the foil upwards. Without any protective device, this can end badly because even LED spots can still get very hot. You should at least check the datasheet of the spots to see what housing temperature they reach and if there are any installation instructions.

Hello everyone,

the simplest cheapest and just as safe are silicone plaster cups.

Yes, that would probably work somehow, but I don't want to "mess around" at all costs in a new build. And since I only have about 40 spots in the house, I prefer to spend the money on the [Kaiserdosen]. Especially since the silicone cups are not airtight either.
