Why do you then switch from wood tile look A to wood tile look B in the bathroom? What kind of floor does the hallway in front of the bathroom have?
Finally someone who speaks plainly. It’s no coincidence that good (and unfortunately also overrated) tilers cost money. You pay for the look, speed, "not having to do it yourself," and "not having to be annoyed about mistakes you made yourself."I've been through it too. My husband was a laborer and mortarer. 30 x 30cm tiles with tile spacers. What is really not mentioned anywhere is the fact that the adhesive oozes out in the joints and you get problems with the grout lines. Surely you don't want grout lines. That won't be easy. Somewhere the adhesive always oozes out or sticks. Or the tiles become hollow... anyway: you have to practice the craft until you can do it well. By the way, as an amateur I laid out the tiles all over the room (open living room in a row house), corrected it 3 times until everything was straight... after 7 days, 50 sqm with corners were laid and I had a slipped disc and burnt fingertips, because I couldn’t handle the gloves properly.
... and that damn mortar everywhere ...
I would rather build the shell, because you can save more there and you don’t have to work so precisely. With bad tile installation, you ruin the whole look.
When I see the performance of the so-called "professional tilers" in our house and also in others, it can be quite scary at times. You can count good tilers in Saxony on one hand. Most of them are bunglers. You really have to say it like that. And it has nothing to do with the price. Finally, someone who speaks plainly. It's not for nothing that good (and unfortunately also overrated) tilers cost money.
I didn’t write anything different. Even if the tile laying company here has a good reputation, who guarantees to me, for example, that the newly hired journeyman works just as well? Unfortunately, no one! When I see the work of the so-called "professional tile layers" in our house and elsewhere, it can be quite frightening at times. Botched work everywhere you go, literally. I know of at least 4 examples laid by professionals that are a complete disaster. In one case the bathroom window wouldn't open anymore, in another the tiles broke shortly after the warranty period, and in our place a lot is laid crooked and uneven, even though I specifically told them where to start so it wouldn't be crooked. Just this past weekend I had a friend who also said he does everything himself because the tile layers don’t want or can’t do a good job.
