Dear forum,
I want to lay ship deck parquet in the living room of a penthouse apartment, I have attached 2 pictures.
The living room is 6x5m. The windows on the long 6m side face southwest.
How should the lengthwise direction of the parquet run Var1 or lengthwise along the long side Var2?

How would you design the parquet finish at the window frame? Also, how to attach a skirting board on the wall? Or draw a silicone joint between the frame and parquet or glue in a cork strip?

I had selected Haro FP4000 3-strip oak 13.5 mm thick, is the quality okay?

Thanks in advance, best regards Frank

Hello Frank,
In my opinion, the direction of laying parquet is no longer decisive as it used to be. It's more a matter of taste. Looking at the floor plan, I would choose option 2.
For floor-to-ceiling windows, I would choose 10mm wide cork strips for glued parquet, and a wall edge profile for floating installation.
If you decide on cork, remember to seal it as well, otherwise it will become quite unsightly over time.

Hello, I also tend towards option 2 due to the light incidence. We also have wall termination profiles on the floor-to-ceiling windows. It looks clean and works without any problems.

Hi,
I would now prefer directional option 1, it visually stretches the room a bit. But it is really a matter of taste, technically it doesn’t matter as far as I know.
Maybe you should also look at the overall floor plan of the level and decide on a common laying direction for all rooms. Personally, I always find it very restless when the parquet is laid differently in each room. Even if that is always optimal for each room according to the "lighfall rules".

I assume you want to lay it floating?

Most of our neighbors have also laid parquet floating and did the transitions and edges only with cork. Does not conform to the official laying guidelines, but seems to work well for them and is less noticeable than the aluminum strips.

Best regards,

Andreas

That's true. For a room of 5x6m, however, I would pay more attention to the light incidence. For 4x8m, I would have also laid it out more according to variant 1.

Hi,

Now I have to play dumb: Wasn't the rule that you should lay lengthwise to the main light incidence direction? Since the 6 m front faces southwest, that is also the main light incidence direction.

Many greetings,

Andreas
