Hello everyone, I hope I have landed in the right subcategory here.
The following: I want to lay an electrical cable from the house to my tool shed in the garden. However, digging a deep trench with sand bedding is too elaborate for me. Can I also simply run the cable near the surface through a plastic pipe?
Technically, that should not be a problem, I just doubt whether it is permitted, also because of the insurance.

Low voltage power lines should be laid 60-80cm deep. You can of course dig less deep at your own risk. However, if it is open ground (lawn, garden beds, etc.), problems are inevitable. Sooner or later someone will hit it with a hoe. In addition, the soil in the surface layer moves more, which places tensile stress on the line, and plastic pipes in particular are sensitive to temperature fluctuations that always occur in the upper layer.

I agree with wno; the regulations regarding electrical installations have their reason. A 60cm deep trench for an underground cable is not that complicated; with a hoe, it goes quite quickly. For safety, the effort should be worth it. Actually, in Germany, you are not allowed to lay and connect electrical cables without being an electrician.

I have to say that this building regulation should definitely be followed, even renting a small mini excavator to dig the trench is worthwhile in any case. Because this also concerns the area of voles, weather conditions, etc., which is why this building depth is required.

This question also concerns me because I want to install something similar. Technically, this is already possible, but the building regulation speaks against it. These cables should lie at least 60 cm underground. At this depth, the underground cable is well protected.

We have also laid our power cable in the garden. Our cable lies about 80 cm deep in the ground. As protection, we placed cable stones on top of it. This way, it definitely cannot happen that someone hits it with a hoe.
