Hello,

This attitude should (actually) no longer surprise me; nevertheless, it does.

I am not talking about chains, which can be found in every smaller or larger town; these addresses are interchangeable - the only difference is the name at the town entrance. I am talking about real specialist trade - a dealer for agricultural machinery is such a business. The advice you receive in such stores - if they are still even near you - is generally comprehensive and very good. Of course, I have to choose from their range; but that is, by the way, no different from what is always written here about providers. It is also by no means the case that the local specialist trade has to draw the short straw in terms of prices. It is rather that the Internet suggests it is always and everywhere cheaper. But even if the specialist trade is a few euros more expensive - which I would doubt, as a lot of junk is sold online - it is worth it to me; for myself as well as the jobs, which can only be secured by sales.

I also notice this mood among some of my telephone contacts who are looking for a suitable building partner. Some of them seem seriously convinced that a new build can be handled via e-mail and self-study of BB etc. From such conversations, I free myself in a charming way and wish them much success with the upcoming adventure of building a house.

Rhenish regards

We also buy a lot online and compare a lot as well. We also buy a lot from the retailer with the big A. When comparing prices, we had our Gardena irrigation system completely ordered from a specialist dealer who by far had the best price.

However, there are things we prefer to buy from specialist retailers. For example, the brush cutter at the agricultural machinery specialist dealer. He gave us good advice on certain points (where even my wife still had questions) and will provide a complete instruction upon pickup. We will take the neighbor along who also wants to use the brush cutter. He came down a bit on the price for us. Not quite the online price, but considering that we would have had to pick up the brush cutter directly from the online retailer, the price was reasonable (travel time + travel costs).

I myself never buy clothes and shoes online. I once tried with shoes. I ordered my size and half a size larger. The shoes were supposed to be for work and would have been worn for X hours every day. Although partly larger, they did not fit. So I sent them back. In the specialty store I then take an alternative pair and try this one and then the next. I also want to try on and touch the clothes. Constant ordering and returning would annoy me.

By the way, we also shop at the discount store when price and quality fit. But who can actually judge the quality of a purchased item at the time of purchase?

Back to the lawnmower
We have a very old petrol mower, brand no longer legible, a ride-on mower from MTB and a brush cutter from Stihl.
About 750 sqm are mowed.
A robotic lawn mower is planned, possibly two, due to the area to be mowed. However, we are very undecided, leaning towards a Husqvarna.

Unfortunately, today it often no longer is and instead just aims to sell the most expensive equipment possible. Professional lawn mowers for football fields are sold for a 20sqm front lawn and such nonsense. It is just like that everywhere: everyone has to inform themselves. So-called "specialist dealer goods," which are only sold by specialist dealers, are always more expensive but usually not worth the extra cost, especially since you can’t read enough reviews about them on the internet because these items are only sold by the specialist trade. I like to inform myself on the internet and trust buyers’ reviews (while being able to spot fake reviews) more than the manufacturer’s promotions. Information online is also becoming scarcer. Specialist dealer goods sold only through specialist dealers so that the customer can only trust the specialist dealer and in the end is stuck with the overpriced nonsense. Because on site the customer has no right of return!
And that is the reason why the internet is vastly superior to physical stores anyway: 14 days return policy without ifs or buts!

: you also bought the Gardena pipeline system? How satisfied are you with the system? Our system is still in the living room as we still have to build up soil and don’t yet know the final height.
