Hello,
I am currently dealing with the kitchen planning for our new build. It is actually a rather small kitchen (2m*3m). Floor tiles will be laid in the kitchen area. The walls of the kitchen will not be tiled, kitchen backsplashes will be installed there instead. Parquet flooring will be laid in the living area. At first, we thought of a simple U-shape kitchen like in this picture, so that the kitchen and living room are clearly separated.

Now we have been wondering whether it would also be possible to extend the kitchen with a small seating area, roughly like here:

This would then create a bit more options and space in the kitchen. The problem is that the kitchen would then be on two different materials.
My question to you: Is the second plan recommended? What needs to be considered at the transition between tiles and parquet? How about possible mold formation at the transition? Does the kitchen backsplash then also have to be continued into the living room? That is where the seating area meets the balcony wall.
I would be very pleased if you would share your opinion on the two plans.
Many heartfelt thanks!
