Hello everyone,

This year, fiber optic cables are being laid in our town by a major internet provider. After the pilot project a few years ago, the rest of the town is now being connected (if people want it).

During the pilot project, it could be seen that a really good and hardworking Eastern European construction crew lifted the sidewalk stones (paving), dug, laid cables, pushed the connection into the house, and then closed everything up again, re-laid the paving, and swept sand into the joints.

Now I have come up with the idea that on this occasion, something other than sand could be swept into the joints, something that will ensure that in the future we have less work with the weeds in our sidewalk joints.

Two questions about this:
1. What product can you recommend to me?
2. The sidewalk officially belongs to the municipality (?), do I have to take something into account here? After all, I am also responsible for clearing it in winter and keeping it clean of weeds.

Thanks to you and best regards

Hi, the sidewalk belongs to the city. You can't just sweep anything foreign into it.

I think it doesn’t matter what is IN the joints. The joints themselves are the "problem." Organic matter gets into them, and then plants grow on that. There is almost jointless paving, but unfortunately, you probably won’t have that choice. And if it’s DG you’re talking about as a company, the paving work is rather "underground." Hotline catastrophic and well, Dual Stack with CGNAT. They have caused a lot of damage here in our town on both public and private property. I already wanted to create a photo book called "the scariest paving work ever."

I won't do anything there at all. But the construction crew sweeps something in there anyway...

: No, here it's the big red V.
But as I said, they have already done part of the place as a pilot project and after the work the pavement is better than before. The construction crew doesn't seem particularly fast to me, but the quality looks good.

Addendum: I was thinking of something like Dansand that shifts the pH value so that wild herb seeds no longer like it. It should last 10 years, I would definitely consider the 200-300€ for materials + beer crate for the construction crew worth it.

Some people also make a big fuss out of it.

Unclear to me why every little bit of green has to be fought with force ...
