Hello everyone,

what price premium do you consider justified at local specialist stores compared to online shops?
In the specific case, I bought Consolan weather protection paint at the specialist paint retailer. The 10l bucket cost €177 (minus 2% discount) there. Online, the paint costs just under €110. Also, the paint would be significantly cheaper in other stores, even if I bought the paint in 2.5l containers. I found the advice to be good and the specialist store is therefore allowed to charge more, but is over 50% really justified? How would you behave? Address it at the specialist store and ask if they made a mistake or simply return it, provided they accept returns. For the wood preservative primer, which I also bought there, the prices were okay compared to other prices.
Maybe some experts are here. Many thanks for your opinions

Hello,

how much does the paint cost at other brick-and-mortar stores?

Online you will always have it cheaper, there is no comparison. Although 177 to 110 is already immense.

The difference is really striking. It probably won't happen to you again ;-) If you needed the color immediately, it will have been worth it including the consultation.

I haven't checked any other specialty stores yet. But if 10l in 2.5l containers is cheaper at the hardware store, that's really strange. I also didn't know what type of paint I needed, so I went to the specialty store. It can cost more there, I don't want a free consultation only to then order online. But in my opinion, the price should be fair and justified. And no surcharge over 50%.

Grandma Emma who has no internet pays for what she sees. And whether there is something similar from another manufacturer doesn't matter either, the expert said this is the best.

The same with the craftsmen, especially the plumber.. woe betide you if you bring something for installation that you haven't obtained through them.

Our plumber just said: "No problem, bring everything over, we'll install it."
