Is the ceiling panel exhaust sufficient? Are cheap devices reliable?

Hello everyone,

after the general contractor's insolvency and very extensive defect remediation, we are slowly planning in all directions again (shell construction has already started). Unfortunately, the money has naturally become tight and we have to see if we can maintain our planning. One of many (expensive) considerations is:

Can we get by with a ceiling panel as a cooker hood? (Recirculation/extraction is open)
- The kitchen is separated from the living/dining area by a 1.76m double sliding door
- Ceiling height 2.51m
- Kitchen worktop is supposed to be about 90cm high
- Under the ceiling there will be a boxed section about 30cm high
- The cooking area is (more or less) in the middle of the room

The cooker hood would therefore have to cover about 1.30m.

Can you give me tips on whether this will even work reliably and, if applicable, if there are any "affordable" devices suitable for this? (We probably won't see the kitchen builder until the next few weeks)

Have you dismantled or is it now about a different object?

If the drawn plan is the kitchen plan, then you might want to optimize it first. Always going around the peninsula to switch from the preparation area to the cooking area or to drain things is impractical.

And, if by ceiling panel you mean a ceiling extractor hood... it usually starts to make sense at around 1000 euros. A good recommendation is always Novy. I’ve had one for 6.5 years and am very satisfied. Good and quiet.

I agree with kbt on that: The kitchen layout is already very "unusual."

Please define again what is already fixed from what has been shown (room dimensions, windows/doors). Especially the possibility of an exhaust hood or just "recirculation" can make a big difference in the price.

I know the layout from large kitchens. With 2-3 such blocks and at least 4 chefs. Then there is also a sink behind one.

Seriously, that just doesn't work and only because of the (half-)island... I don't know. I see a lot of possibilities for optimization. Okay, that means no cabinet stays where it was, but whatever.

We dismantled down to the foundation walls and started anew from there.

The layout is not up for debate. We have already discussed it in various forums. It has been tested by us in kitchen studios and deemed "good." This is solely about the height and type of the possible extractor hood and as "affordable" variants as possible that (still) work.

If that were the case, I would agree with you. But it is not.

Yes, exactly – there shall be a 30cm high boxed section under the ceiling, and the extractor should be installed inside. That results in a distance of about 1.30m between the cooktop and the extractor hood. Thanks for the tip about Novy – I will google it right away!
