We have a KFW 55 semi-detached house.

We have about North East and West windows; to the South is the other semi-detached half of the neighbors

Do you need an air conditioner or is sensible shading enough?

Since you don't have any south-facing windows, a reasonable shading should be sufficient. Of course, unless you have a room directly under the roof or in the attic.

Sorry we have an open floor plan with living room and dining area and open kitchen

On the 1st floor bedroom dressing room and children's room

And about 35sqm studio in the attic directly under the roof so no loft

We have a kfw 55

In this respect, I am currently wondering to what extent you are even allowed to install an air conditioning system here without jeopardizing your KfW 55 subsidy?!
