Is an additional charge for high-quality lamps necessary?

I am currently working on the lighting design. We had it professionally done by a regional dealer. What shocked me were the partially insane prices. There was no pendant lamp (dining area strip lamp) under €800, more around €2000. Also ceiling lamps or spots were about four times the internet prices. I am wondering whether the surcharge for the lighting is justified. Especially with a view to using it for the next 10-30 years, I am willing to pay more for certain items, but only if the quality corresponds. Does anyone have experience with this? Thank you very much!

At some point, a threshold is reached where surcharges no longer justify the increase in quality. A good example is, for instance, Occhio Sento, which costs around €600-700 as a small wall lamp. Fake Sentos, like the Top Light Puk, cost about a quarter of the price but still have very good quality. I am also happy to spend money on good things, but in my opinion, with lamps, this is very often exaggerated because the leap in quality cannot keep up with the price jump. My conclusion: good lamps cost good money. Designer lines, which are often offered by professional dealers, are significantly overpriced.

They then tend to serve more the function of a "status symbol" thanks to their recognizability. The differences are mainly in the quality of the electronics/socket and the surface finish. This is extremely noticeable with chrome or brass surfaces. These are then differences like those between a cheap Vuitton replica made of synthetic leather and the original made of leather.

We wanted a pendant lamp in a simple Scandinavian look. "Original" 300€ for a very simple lamp with shade. Replica 50€, so we bought the replica first. Quality was abysmal. The metal shade was floppy and therefore uneven in shape. In addition, it had a seam in one spot, so it was apparently bent and welded. Then the original: shade made of solid material, easily twice as heavy. Perfect shape, not floppy, no weld seam. Conclusion: super cheap is also super cheap. Whether a 1000€ lamp is three times better than a 300€ lamp? I don't know, I tend to doubt it. Did you pay the lighting planner separately or is it financed by the expensive lamps?

I would be very interested in professional lighting design. Would you like to show us this and write something about it?

I cannot agree with you.. I have seen and tried both. There is indeed a "world" of difference between them. However, also in terms of price, I agree with you
