You’re right :) Maybe a Mondeo is enough after all. What I meant was: If the woman is on parental leave, additional costs due to the house + toddler + less income, then you have to be able and willing to cut back. I would answer the question of ability here with "yes" – the question of willingness must be consciously answered with "yes" by the OP, otherwise, if I were in his place, I wouldn’t build a house.

Let's agree on an A3 Sportback ;-)

After 7 years of A6 (4b and 4f) I tried switching to an A4. My wife said a 100k car is simply completely uneconomical and "stupid" :) She’s probably right. After 2 weeks of test driving the A4, it ended up being the current 4g last year. Going from "top" to "bottom" is really annoying once you get used to it.

What I want to say is..."no more Audi A6, but a Ford Focus, it has to be okay."...is easy to say when you’re not affected :)

I've heard that often enough, as long as you live cheaply at home, have no family, etc. it "MUST" be a 5-series BMW, E-Class, or S5 coupe, even if you have a loss of value of 20k or more per year. Some still live with their mom at 40... When they finally do "grow up," you constantly hear, what a waste of money I spent back then, I could have bought myself a nice apartment for that...

Luckily, I never did such nonsense. But I know what you mean. I know people like that too. On the one hand, I find it ridiculous, but I also say: Each to their own. If 40 sqm and canned food are enough, but it absolutely has to be the 5 Series BMW. Why not..
