Our drywall installer also recommended this for the transitions. However, I don't find the word "makeshift" appropriate here, because some things are unavoidable. But this also applies to a normal paint job like with OP.

"Pfuschleiste" is craftsmen's slang, of course it is not botched work, but a trick to conceal inevitable cracks. And a cheap trick at that.

Exactly. Styrofoam, painted with ceiling paint and glued with Sille. Just like in the old days. Tried and tested, always popular, throughout our entire house.

I think it looks good! Especially if the wall has a different color like yours.

It's simply a matter of taste. Such historicizing elements probably don't work as well on Bauhaus flat roofs.
