Horrido. We have a plot of land in an existing residential area where an old house used to stand, which we have demolished. Since the house had a cellar, we now have a hole about 1.5 m deep. At one spot, part of the edge of the pit slipped during the heavy rains last week, and I am now worried that this could happen elsewhere as well. The shortest distance to the next neighbor or their garage is currently about 2.5 m at one point. Is it possible to insure something like this and if so, with which insurance? Homeowners' and landowners' liability insurance?

I have now read as an example in the terms and conditions of the homeowners' and landowners' liability insurance of HUK:

2.2.11 Subsidence of land and landslides
Covered are damages caused by the subsidence of land or by a landslide.

or:

2.2.12 Environmental impact
Covered are damages caused by environmental impact. Environmental impact damage is present if it was caused by: substances, vibrations, noises, pressure, radiation, gases, vapors, heat, or other phenomena that have spread in soil, air, or water.

That should cover the mentioned issue, right?

Well, a slope in house construction is necessary but must also be professionally created, meaning it must have a certain incline, which must be protected from rain with a membrane.

Did you do it this way? If not, no insurance will cover you in case of damage.

Maybe they will still sell one, but if the neighbor's house is damaged, they will find grounds to refuse payment.

Danger recognized but not averted? As an owner, you are liable. No insurance will cover any compensation here.

That I have to do something about it is clear. I will make a call tomorrow. It's only a matter of which insurance is responsible for something like that, in case something still happens.

You have already figured it out.

Hm, I think you cannot insure 'imminent danger.'
You would have had better chances before the demolition.
And even if you can take out the insurance, because the insurer wants to make money, they will check a damage that occurs in the near term.
