Hello,

I have a question. We want to build an ecological, well-insulated house and have therefore selected ["Ökohaus"] providers. Now we have received cost proposals from various companies, and suddenly the ["Ökohaus"] no longer has wood fiber insulation or cellulose insulation in the walls, but mineral wool. And of course, it is supposedly still ecologically very good (according to the company), because it has the Blue Angel (it's from Knauf). I am a bit shocked right now because I actually wanted a house with a timber frame construction and insulation made from renewable raw materials. In other words, wood, hemp, coconut, or if it weren't so expensive, sheep wool. What do you think about the mineral wool from Knauf with the Blue Angel? What are the disadvantages, and what advantages does insulation based on wood have, for example? How is it with the room atmosphere? Can you feel it? I would appreciate your opinions!

No, you don't feel anything. However, mineral wool itches more if you cuddle with it. Just Google it... there are 100 comparisons. I think it's mainly about what you want and also about your conviction. Mineral wool is just a petroleum product.

Mineral wool is the generic term for rock wool or glass wool. These are melted and processed fibers made from sand, etc. So not a petroleum product. I do not consider all the natural products to be more ecological, as they are treated with many fine chemicals to meet fire protection, etc. I would not be deterred by mineral wool or more precisely mineral fiber insulation. Regards

Sure? I had a strong feeling that there was also mineral oil in small parts...

A small amount as a binder, but I think it is hard to find something that does not contain it. It is always a matter of balance and should be appropriate where you feel good about it.

Wood fiber is supposed to tend to develop blue stain later due to the higher density.

The summer heat and general sound insulation are also better due to the higher density.

The U-value is usually somewhat worse.

The material costs are higher, the processing, when blown in, is easier or faster, but therefore cannot be carried out as a DIY job (special machine and experience necessary).
