I also see the bigger problem there. Even if it's not terribly in the way, a lot of humid warm air will rise upwards. So it should definitely be within the insulated area. Can you actually open the hatch from above or could someone accidentally lock you in?

They usually open from the inside as well (the latch goes inward). However, you can't close them from the inside because the ladder has to be folded together in a specific sequence. So the one from Dolle (market leader?) has to be folded down first and then up. I need to see if I can rig something with a string.

Everything is illuminated like in a living space, that’s not a problem, we over-dimensioned that upstairs…. Regarding the wiring, you’re right, I think there really is only one socket upstairs. Would it really be too much to use a multi-plug for a monitor, laptop, and possibly a printer? I would have thought one line could still handle that. Internet I have via 5G mobile hotspot up there.

Access will probably unfortunately only be possible through the attic hatch, so I would then just insulate the area there as well. The only other realistic option would be from outside via some kind of spiral staircase (or ladder) and installing a door. Inside, it’s almost impossible to integrate a staircase due to ceiling cooling, unfortunately. But generally, the conversion would bring such relief that I would accept using the attic hatch.

Whether I can get down alone from above is the next good question… I have to try that. Although my wife is actually always home at the moment due to parental leave, later on I would of course need the ability to get down alone.

The office equipment is not a problem for me, but I was referring to the idea with the electric heater. It needs more power than your computer.

In case of doubt, there are also electric floor hatches, e.g. from Dolle.

Ah, that’s true of course... With one line it’s probably already tight, I’ll check if I have one or two up there.

What also concerns me: In summer it will probably get unbearably hot there without ventilation even with insulation. So I think I won’t get around having a window... Or maybe a fan or something.

Everything has already been said here... Or are there still questions open? But thanks for thinking of me. We have already planned to use our "attic" or 1st floor from the beginning. That’s why it is properly insulated with 6cm wood fiberboards + 20cm blown-in insulation + foil. We hardly need to heat upstairs at the moment.
