Hello,

we viewed a house that is for sale. On the ground floor, terracotta tiles are laid everywhere, which already look very much like the 80s. Could one simply lay a thin vinyl on top of the tiles and avoid removing the tiles? The doors and frames would have to be replaced anyway, so one would probably not have any problems with thresholds etc. Under the tiles there is underfloor heating. Does the heat still come through?

The tiles need to be fully filled with putty, otherwise the joints will show through.

The heat naturally passes through the tile. Tiles are very good conductors of heat, especially with putty.

Hello,
thanks already for the quick reply. Klick vinyl does have a kind of backing plate, even the thin versions. Do the joints still show through there?
Regarding heat conduction, I actually meant whether two floor coverings on top of each other insulate heat too much. The tiles alone have of course been working for decades.

So, underfloor heating must be fully glued. Any air bubble or layer holds back the heat. I don't know if your click vinyl is glued. Your "carrier board" would probably be more of an obstacle. I would anyway consider whether to cover good tiles with plastic. Do they really look that bad? Good genuine terracotta is timeless and also fits modern styles. Beige is coming back, now just called sand or coffee cream. Did you take a photo? Regards, Yvonne
