Installation location of heat pump - in the south?

Hello,

after much back and forth, we have now decided on an air-water heat pump.

Now we are planning the installation location. Originally, it was planned to place it in the north, where it wouldn't disturb anyone. It would be under the bathroom there and the neighbors are also quite far away.

However, I am currently wondering if that makes sense. In some thread here, someone wrote that it is best to install it in the south. He did not say why, but in principle that makes sense to me because of the higher temperatures. What do you think? Does it make a significant difference? Especially in winter, it can't hurt if the sun also shines on the pump, right? Or will I have a problem with the device in summer with high outside temperatures if the sun constantly beats down on it?

I look forward to hearing about your experiences.

Place them where they are farthest away from the neighbor! Everything else is priority C. The airflow is so high that the little extra solar heat is negligible. More important is that you treat your neighbor as you would like to be treated. Therefore, also pay attention to a quiet system.

That goes without saying. Buy an extra silent version with 54db. But that was not the question... the other point interests me more

If by south you mean Southern Italy, then that definitely makes sense. Just kidding. Definitely set it up in the south, then paint the whole thing black and put up a few mirrors to catch the last bit of solar energy. Surely saves about 10 cents per year.

To reiterate: The air is ultimately similarly warm in the microclimate around the house. Therefore, the effect is negligible.

We have an air conditioner with 51db (the outdoor unit) and we find it very loud. They only turn it on briefly around noon in the height of summer, so as not to disturb anyone too much (neighbors are at work then). Therefore, if I were you, I would place a heat pump as far away from your neighbors as possible; that would be my highest priority.

Best regards
Sabine
