Hello dear home builders.
I am new here and signed up because we have a problem. We moved into our new house in August and had a problem before Christmas. Due to weeks of rain combined with wind and storm, our interior walls on the weather side are damp at floor level, about 10-15 cm high. The construction company says it is caused by the ventilation slots in the brickwork; they have now sealed them and have gone on vacation until January 12th.

Is it possible that rainwater gets through the ventilation slots to the interior walls? I can hardly imagine that.

Please, I ask for your help/opinion.
Thank you very much

You surely mean the inside of the exterior walls? An interior wall would be bounded by rooms on both sides. In my opinion, that must not be the case, there is most likely something wrong with the sealing of the walls. A subsequent sealing of the ventilation slots prevents their originally intended function of ventilating the bricks, which in my opinion is only a cover-up for a deeper construction defect.

No, I unfortunately mean the interior wall, that is, the living room wall, where there is now also a nice edge visible. It is the same with my parents-in-law (same developer).

Hello.

Did "someone" perhaps save on the waterproofing above the first row of bricks .... ?

Rhenish greetings

If only I knew. But it would be bad if it was forgotten or saved on at 3 houses (It also happened at the neighbor's).

At a less conspicuous spot, chip away the brick and try to find out where the moisture is coming from and which path it takes. Don’t worry about the hole that will form in the brick. From the way this sounds, that hole will be the smallest damage...
