In which direction should country house floorboards be laid?

Hello everyone,

I will be installing the Haro Disano design floor in my place. The planks are about 200 x 23 cm in size. So they are relatively large with an all-around V-groove, which I really like. Now I am just wondering in which direction I should lay the large planks. The room is about 5.7 m long and about 3 m wide. The window is on the long side.

Actually, I wanted to lay it crosswise to make the room appear visually wider. But now I am wondering if the planks might look better if laid lengthwise so that more full planks can be installed. Or would the room then rather appear elongated?

Floorboards are usually laid parallel to the light source, so in your case along the long side and not across.

If you have concerns, just lay a few square meters on the floor and see how it feels to you.

Yes.. I am already familiar with the "rules" about the light source. It's just that I'm a bit unsure because of the dimensions. If I lay it crosswise, I have to cut almost every plank. If I lay it lengthwise, I can also sometimes lay two side by side in full length. That's why I'm a bit uncertain..

Do not confuse convenience with insecurity.

There are rules that are simply harder to implement in some houses. Nevertheless, just try to explain how it looks. You are allowed to bypass rules - not because of convenience, but because of the appearance.

No..I am anything but lazy. If I were lazy, I would have left the laminate in. It's mainly about the appearance for me. I just thought that otherwise, in the end, you don't get much out of the large plank. I'll simulate it with Visio and put it in..

As already mentioned, give it a try! I also thought that this rule is nonsense and that we should lay the floorboards differently because of the room width. The test laying showed us that the rule fits better here as well
